Hot Spring Day

Well, the day following our electrical fire, the heatpump froze up and it got up to 90°. We called maintenance and they were able to get things going again. I really respect these maintenance guys working for a large apartment complex. They have to know a lot of stuff in order to support us and I appreciate the work they do.

We're enjoying the facilities at the apartment. We have three swimming pools and two tennis courts and they have a fitness facility that the boys and Rosie are up using right now.

Fire in the Home!!!

OK, this is my first attempt at writing in what amounts to a journal. I've been a little reticent about doing one of these. I've never liked the long page format most use, but want to get this stuff down for the current and future Bolins.

To the right, left-to-right and top-to-bottom, we have Liza, Lee, Simon, Katie, Adam, Garfunkel, rosie and Riley.

We moved into a new apartment on Friday, 5/29/09, which was our 16th wedding anniversery. It was a relatively painless move. We employed movers to do all the heavy stuff and settled in over the weekend.

On Monday, Rosie and I were moving a small load of items and came home to an apartment full of smoke. No smoke detectors going off. Rosie quickly removed the boys and animals from the apartment while I checked out the source and called 911. The source of the fire was the main electrical panel. It was smoking and sparking and I could see flames behind it. I grabbed the fire extinguisher, but did not use it and instead, took a wooden hanger lying about and turned off all the electricity on that panel.

The fire department arrived soon and accessed damage. Maintenance staff arrived as well and we were back up and running withing 2 hours. Apparently, an old breaker did not do it's job and the result was the fire.

We're very lucky we came home when we did. The boys had no smoke in their room because their door was closed, so they had no idea there was a problem.
